Introduction

In year 10 there were 3 girls in my class that decided that tech drawing was more fun than the only other option available – grooming and deportment (we’re talking rural school in the 1970’s so there weren’t many options) doing that year of tech drawing ended up defining my life. That same year the Shire of toodyay ran a competition for the class to design a new sign for one of the local parks – my design was chosen, and I’d won my very first design award! (that same sign is still in Newcastle Park today) About the same time I helped my dad with the layout of wall units he was designing for our home and I was hooked! My love of design grew from there, and while it wasn’t until over 10 years later that I would eventually undertake formal study, I have been blessed with being able to work on a wonderful variety of projects over many years.

While I now specialise in designing and consulting for Autism and other neuro-diversity I continue to provide design and documentation services to everyone in the community.

Your design

This page provides just a small snapshot of my work over the years, and gives you an insight into what I could achieve for you. Obtaining your building permit

With the ever increasing requirements surrounding planning and building regulations, it’s important to have an experienced professional navigate the way through each requirement for your particular site and project to ensure the planning approval and building license is acquired with the minimum of fuss. Making sure that the architectural drawings coordinate and cross reference with the other specialist consultants can be complicated for those with little or no experience.

PROJECTS

Avon Valley Mitsubishi

This project involved turning a maintenance shed into a sparkling showroom. A seemingly simple building, the extension of the new showroom was close to, and abutting several lot boundaries, so it became an exercise in technical specification to achieve several building code requirements including fire resistance.

West Toodyay Residence

This home of local cattle farmers captures the essence of country living in a contemporary style, with passive solar design, natural and robust materials, and with a colour palette drawn from the bark of trees on the site, the kitchen has seen everything from scones and cream to the trimming and packing of a slaughtered weaner.

McBride Residence – West Toodyay

This home is a modern interpretation of a classic country home, with large open flowing areas and a cosy lounge. It’s perfect for entertaining family and friends, or for a quiet night in. Low maintenance choices suit this rural living, professional couple down to the ground.

Roleystone Residence

This award winning residence was built on the side of a steep hill looking north towards a valley. Using the slope of the site, the 2 storey split level home followed the contours of the site to achieve a stunning result in easy living for it’s owners whose main brief was for the home to nestle next to a dramatic granite outcrop. Builder: Nebular Constructions

St John Ambulance – Shenton Park Depot

Working closely with the builder and St John Ambulance, this 8 ambulance garage and response centre needed to meet site environmental needs with native trees on site, while meeting operational needs and building code compliance.

Voyager Estate Vineyard office and laboratory

Set amongst the vineyards of the world renowned Voyager Estate Winery, this simple rural building exemplified the late Michael Wright’s statement that they were “just farmers”. Using rock and timber from the site and specifying the feature timber internally to be installed rough sawn anchors the building to its location.

Crawley Avenue Apartment

This apartment with views of the river, was essentially a mess of poor renovation decisions mixed with original features from when it was built in the early 70’s. By totally gutting the apartment and changing the layout, the new work opened the apartment to more light and views to the beautiful complex gardens and pool. The light and bright end result was achieved even with challenges due to body corporate rules and some interesting original construction detailing.
